1) The British Association: An account of "a public dinner given to members of the Association" concludes with the remarks that "the practice which Miss Buckland and one or two other ladies have bravely initiated, of speaking for themselves instead of being invariably spoken for on public occasions, is worthy of all commendation." Buckland's remark, made in response to a toast to the ladies, is reproduced. 2) Social Science Congress: Announces the congress, and a paper by Lydia Becker on women's suffrage.
