Abstract

1) Education: Long report on a discussion among men about women's higher education and admission to universities, which also mentions "the delivery of the first lecture that was ever given to ladies in Scotland," as well as the subsequent course of lectures to which women arrived via a plank through a window, having been forbidden to come "within the walls of the College." 2) The Kindergarten: "Miss Shirreff read a short paper on the Kindergarten objects." 3) Suffrage: "Miss Tod has given a lecture on 'Women's Rights from a Christian point of view." 4) Ladies' Sanitary Association: Announces "a course of six drawing room lectures to ladies on Nursing, to be given by Miss Florence Lees." 5) Brief report on lectures given to women on the subject of music. 6) Dialectical Society: "Mrs. Frances Hoggan, M.D., lectured on 'Chronic cases of illness in families of small means, and how to meet them.'" 7) The Mission Home for Young Gentlewomen in Paris: Miss Leigh gives an account of her work at the Home, which began with communal Bible reading.
