Abstract

1) Corporal Punishment in Board Schools: Mrs. Surr speaks against corporal punishment at girls' and infants' schools during a discussion of the topic among the London School Board. 2) Social Science Congress: Several women give papers in the Education and Health departments at the congress. Miss Vernon's on "Public Parks and Gardens" is briefly summarised. 3) Suffrage: Mentions lectures by Miss Downing and Caroline Biggs. Lydia Becker speaks on "The Duties and Responsibilites of the Municipal Vote." 4) Conference of Temperance Women: Several women speak at the conference in Bolton, and again in Manchester. Two speeches by Lady Hope are paraphrased and summarised respectively. "Mrs. Emma Molloy, of Indiana, the well-known American lecturer on temperance, has been speaking in London lately. [...] She is said to be very eloquent and clear in her arguments. 5) Miscellaneous - Lectures to Ladies: "Mrs. Emily Bovell Sturge, M. D., commenced on October 16th a course of lectures on Physiology."
