At a meeting of the Scottish Women's Liberal Federation, Lady Aberdeen and Miss Lindsay spoke some words of welcome to the guests, Lady Carlisle thanked them. Miss H.B. Thomson moved a resolution against opium traffic. Miss M.E. Niven moved a resolution in favour of temperance. Mrs. Carlaw Martin moved a resolution in favour of regulating the working hours of shop assistants. Mrs. Lindsay spoke about women's suffrage and the Liberal Party. Lady Aberdeen and Miss Helen Waddel discussed the advantages and disadvantages of several resolutions put before the meeting. Mrs. Swan spoke in favour of making female enfranchisement an �avowed object of the Federation.� Lady Mary Murray, Miss Waddel, Mrs Carlaw Martin, Lady Fanny Marjoribanks, Mrs Herkless, Mrs Lang Todd, Miss Wigham, Mrs H.B. Thomson, Mrs Greig, Lady Aberdeen, and Miss Methven discussed Mrs Swan's proposal. Lady Aberdeen then spoke in favour of Women's Suffrage, but against including it in the Federation's programme. She said, with the upcoming general election in mind, that the Federation's duty was first and foremost to support the Liberal Party and since the Party had more pressing matters than Women's Suffrage to deal with at the moment, the Federation should accept that.
