Abstract

1) Anerley: At the private residence of Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Ormiston Chant gave a lecture on "The Religious Aspect of Politics." 2) Bassingbourn: At a local meeting, Mrs. Morgan-Browne gave an address on "Women's Suffrage", and Mrs. E.O. Forham spoke about "The Need for Women Upon All Local Governing Bodies." 3) Burgess Hill: Mrs. Hood and Miss Bondfield explained the objects of the association at a regular meeting. 4) Calstock: At a meeting at the Gunnislake Wesleyan Schoolroom, Miss A. Garland advocated the foundation of a local branch of the Association. 5) Cardiff: At a meeting at the lecture hall at Miskin-Street, which was held under the auspices of Mrs. Williamson, Mrs. Massingberd gave a lecture on current politics. 6) Cardigan: At the annual meeting of this Association, held at the Guildhall, Countess Alice Kearney "delivered an able and admirable address on political and social questions to an exceedingly large and appreciative audience." 7) Dowlas: At a meeting at Oldfellows' Hall, presided over by Mrs. Gwilym C. James, Countess Alice Kearney delivered 'an excellent address.' 8) Durham: Mrs. Hill (the secretary) presented the annual report at a meeting of the local branch of the Association. The meeting was chaired by Miss Shadbolt. 9) East Worcestershire: At a meeting of the Women's Liberal Association in the Temperance Hall, Birmingham, Lady Foster gave a lecture on "A Tour in the Channel Isles and Normandy," which was enhanced by picture illustrations. "Miss G. Southall, in a short speech, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Lady Foster." 10) Falmouth: At the last of a series of social evenings at the former High-street Mission Room, a variety of entertainments were provided. They included recitations by Miss Martin, and a 'very interesting address' on "Women's Influence in Politics" by Mrs. Lloyd. 11) Gilsland: At a meeting held in the Assembly Rooms, Orchard House, Miss Embleton delivered a speech on women's work and rights. 12) Harborough: At a meeting of the liberal ladies at the Leicester Liberal Club in order to form a W.L.A. at this district, Lady Stevenson addressed the meeting on the "Poor Laws." 13) Harrogate: Lady Stavenson gave an address on the "Poor Laws" at a meeting of the W.L.A., held in the Salon, Albert-Street. 14) Haslingden: At the annual meeting of the Haslingden Women's Liberal Association, Mrs. Crossley gave an address. 15) Hornsey: At a successful Cottage Meeting in Hornsey Vale, Miss Mary Macqueen spoke on "Why Women Should Take an Interest in Politics." 16) Huddersfield: Mrs. Brignall gave a lecture on Disestablishment in front of an audience exceeding 400 people. 17) Hull: At a meeting of the W.L.A., Mrs. Morgan-Browne delivered a lecture on "Progressive Morality." The lecture is quoted in part. 18) Leicester: At a meeting of the W.L.A. at the local Liberal Club, Mrs. Osler, the president, and Miss Soonderbai Powar, a local of Bombay, spoke against the opium traffic. 19) Merthyr and District: At a public meeting of the local Association at the Oldfellows' Hall, Dowlais, Countess Alice Kearney gave an address on "The Irish Question." 20) Milford Haven: At the annual public tea and meeting at the Masonic Hall, Countess Kearney gave a lecture on "The Laws We Women Want Altered." 21) North Meols: Miss Houghton and Mrs. Callender Moss addressed the quarterly social meeting in the rooms of the association. 22) Pembroke: "[A]n address was [...] given by Countess Alice Kearney urging the reasons why women should interest themselves in politics." 23) Penryn: At the last 'social evening' of the season, which was presided over by Mrs. Genn, Mrs. Lloyd delivered an address on "Women's Influence in Politics." 24) Royston and District: At the annual public meeting, Mrs. E.O. Fordham, the chairwoman of the meeting, "spoke upon the need of women actively interesting themselves in the local government of the town or village in which they live." Afterwards, Mrs. Morgan-Browne lectured on "Women's Suffrage," and Mrs. Brown reviewed some of the Parliamentary Bills of the season. 25) Sheffield: At a conversazione and meeting, held in the Montgomery Hall, Mrs. Hoskins, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Armitage addressed the meeting. 26) Southport: At a meeting in the Temperance Institute, presided over by Mrs. A.S. Thew, Miss Cheetham proposed a resolution in favour of the Eight Hour Question. Mrs. Crawshaw seconded it. 27) Tenby: At the first annual meeting of this Association, held at the Royal Assembly Rooms, Countess Alice Kearney "addressed a large and enthusiastic gathering." 28) Tradeston: At the annual meeting of the W.L.A. "Miss Waddell [...] delivered an address to an appreciative audience." 29) Warwick: At a school-room meeting, Lady Foster and others addressed the assembled, and a resolution in support of the Liquor Traffic Bill was adopted. 30) Winscombe: At a large meeting at Sidcot, chaired by Mrs. A. Tanner, Miss Robinson gave a lecture on "The Franco-Prussian War and Some of its Lessons." "The lecture was well illustrated by magic-lantern views, and was descriptive of the horrors attendant upon that famous struggle."
