Abstract

Report of the proceedings at the Women's Liberal Federation's Annual Council Meeting at Holborn Town Hall, presided over by Lady Aberdeen, who also opened the meeting with an address welcoming and thanking the members. Then Mrs. Broadley Reid read a letter by Mrs. Gladstone, who retired from her position as president of the Association. After that Lady Aberdeen moved a resolution of thanks to Mrs. Gladstone for her services. After other resolutions had been passed, Lady Aberdeen further moved the adoption of the annual report, which is quoted here. The report also mentions Mrs. Eva McLaren having introduced a deputation to the president of the Local Government Board, Mr. Fowler, to urge the appointment of women members on the Commission on Poor-law Relief. Lady Aberdeen also introduced deputations from the Women's Trades Unions to the Home Secretary. After the adoption of the report, Lady Aberdeen spoke at her successful attendance at the Women's Congress at Chicago, where she had participated as a delegate. Mrs. Broadley Reid seconded the adoption of the report, praising the amount of activity which the organisation had showcased during the past season. Mrs. Turner (Wells Division of Somersetshire) then asked three questions relating to organisational matters of the Federation, which Mrs. Broadley Reid answered. In the course of the proceedings, several more resolutions were passed and seconded, and addressess given by various women.
