Abstract

At a drawing-room meeting in the private residence of Mrs. Hugh Candy, "a committee of ladies met to discuss the question of a woman's demonstration for the purpose of raising funds and expressing sympathy with the distressed wives and children of the miners. [...] It was decided that a women's meeting be held in St. James's Hall [and] that the meeting be addressed by women speakers, and that miners and miners' wives from the affected districts be invited to speak from personal knowledge and experience of the state of things existent in the districts."
