Abstract

1) London School Board: "Miss Davenport-Hill addressed many meetings." Includes an excerpt from an address by Mrs. Augusta Webster and mentions that she "addressed seven or eight meetings in different parts of her division." "Miss Müller addressed four meetings in her constituency, a drawing-room meeting [...] and public meetings." "Mrs. Heatherley addressed many meetings," and one of her addresses is summarised. 2) Christian Women's Union: The president's address is read by her sister, and briefly summarised in the article. "Mrs. Eccles gave an interesting address on the work of the mission" in Africa, and three other women speak on India, China, and Syria, respectively. At subsequent meetings, several more women speak, and the addresses are summarised in varying detail. 3) Central Association of Irish Schoolmistresses and other Ladies Interested in Education: At the Association's general meeting, Mrs. Jellett chairs, Miss A. Oldham "gave a resumé of the work of the committee," and "Miss M. Moffett read the report.," which is summarised. Several women take part in a discussion 4) Women's Suffrage - Elgin: Miss E. Kirkland addresses a drawing-room meeting. Her remarks are briefly summarised. Lambeth: Maye Ashton-Dilke and Florence Balgarnie speak at a public meeting. Mentions a further lecture by Ashton-Dilke. Birmingham: "Miss Jeanette Wilkinson has delivered lectures on 'Women in Politics,' and kindred sujects." 5) The Primrose League: Lady Churchill encourages women to participate in politics at a meeting of the League. 6) Women Poor Law Guardians: Mrs. Blakeney presides at a meeting on temperance. Laura Ormiston Chant speaks. Brighton: Laura Ormiston Chant is called upon by the chairman to move a resolution, and speaks. Her address is reproduced at length in paraphrase. Remarks by Mrs. Haycraft at a meeting are reproduced. She speaks on working relations between female and male poor law guardians. 7) Irish Association for the Training and Employment of Women: At a meeting of the Association's committee, the secretary Miss La Touche gives a report on subscriptions. 8) The Social Purity Question: "During the week ending Oct. 17th a series of meetings were held for women," by two women. "A public meeting was held [at] Bayswater, the chair was taken by Mrs. Percy Bunting, and Mrs. Ormiston Chant gave an address." Devon and Cornwall: Laura Ormiston Chant is referred to as "one of the most valued speakers on this subject. Since the beginning of July she has attended and spoken at 130 meetings." At a conference of the "London Female Preventive and Reformatory Institution," Miss Lobb reads a paper on "The Moral Perils of the Young," and several women discuss the subject. Ormiston Chant and others speak at a "crowded drawing-room meeting" on canvassing. 9) Miscellaneous - Mrs. Costelloe on Women's Work: Miss Wigham convenes and presides at "a conference on women's work" in Edinburgh, where Mrs. Costelloe gives "an able address on the history and organisation of women's work in America." A discussion is mentioned.
