Abstract

Article on the obstacles faced by American women entering "into platform work." Includes an account from Caroline Severance of negative reactions to her first public speech. Severance also lists a number of other incidents where female speakers or men speaking in favour of women's public work, were assaulted verbally or physically by audience members.
