Abstract

1) Conference of Head Mistresses at Oxford: "Miss Cooper [...] read a paper on the new Grammatical Society founded at Birmingham. Miss Hadland [...] contributed a valuable paper on employments for women other than teaching. [...] Mrs. Arthur Sidgwick gave an account of what was being done by the Association for promoting the Higher Education of Women." 2) The General Election: "Miss Tod spoke at no less than seven meetings of electors." At a club opening, Sophie Bryant makes some observations on women's "effective service in the coming election." "Mrs. Ormiston Chant spoke at a meeting on behalf of the Liberal candidate." 3) Suffrage: "At a meeting of the 'Border Forest Habitation' in Kirby Mexloe, Mrs. Bennie, R. C., [...] delivered a very able address on 'reasons for joining the league." 4) The Federation Congress: At a congress on State Regulation of Vice, two women are named, moving and seconding a resolution, respectively. 5) Protection of Girls: At a "meeting of women only," Mrs. Thomas Taylor chairs "and Mrs. Ormiston Chant gave and address." 6) At "a large and influential afternoon meeting," Laura Ormiston Chant speaks on the hardships of young working women in London. Inlcudes direct quotation from her speech. 7) Co-operative Congress, Plymouth: Remarks made by Mrs. Lawrinson in the course of a discussion are briefly summarised.
