An advertisement for a meeting for the reception of a delegation from the Women's Elevation Society appears in the local newspaper, announcing addresses by several notable women. Gentlemen are to be admitted by invitation card only, and may only sit in the galleries. The meeting is presided over by the wife of one of the male protagonists of the story. When the speeches are given, they are characterised as overly sentimental and emotional, yet well rehearsed and presented. Chaos, however, disturbs the order, when mice are seen on the parquet, and all the formerly tough women jump up on their chairs just to be saved by their men.
