Abstract

Lady Hope narrates how, during an evening of Bible-reading to a number of working men and women, an idea had been born, to replace the local pubs - source of much distress and mischief - with a tea and coffee room, that would offer to the men an alternative alcohol-free way of spending their evenings. Besides refreshments, the establishment featured also courses and lectures.
