Abstract

"The Temperance Society may well be congratulated on the splendid meeting held last week in the Westminster Town Hall. Archdeacon Farrar occupied the chair, and it was a sign of the times to see upon such a platform speakers of so widely different views and position as lady Henry Somerset, Benjamin Tillett, Canon Wilberforce, Mr. Hall Caine, M.P., etc. [...] Lady Henry bravely and boldly declared the vote was an absolute necessity for women if they were to bring about a reform. She spoke straight from the heart, and few could hear her burning words without being moved." The article also mentions that Lady Henry Somerset has just returned from a joint tour with Miss Frances Willard through America, where they have spoken at 84 meetings.
