Abstract

1) Women Poor Law Guardians: Mrs. Stopes presides at a meeting, and her and three other women's remarks are briefly reproduced. At a second meeting, several women including Mrs. Ashford, Caroline Biggs, Florence Stacpoole, and Mrs. Stopes speak, presumably briefly. At another "influentially attended meeting," Louisa Twining speaks upon seconding a motion. Her remarks are paraphrased at some length. Nottingham: An "excellent paper by Mrs. Grundy, on the Duties of Women Guardians, was read by Miss Renals at a meeting of the Women's Liberal Association." 2) Boarding out of Pauper Children: At a conference at Exeter Hall, Miss Joanna Hill reads a paper on the subject. It is reproduced in paraphrase at lenght. 3) Women's Liberal Association, Newcastle-on-Tyne: At the Association's first annual meeting, Mrs. Spence Watson gives an address, which is reproduced. Two other women's remarks are also quoted indirectly. Southport: "Mrs. Oliver Scatcherd, of Leeds, gave an address on 'Government by Compulsion.'" Women's Liberal Association for South Kensington: Mrs. McLaren speaks, and Mrs. Bateson gives an address on "The Present Condition of Ireland" at the Association's annual meeting. Both contributions are reproduced. "At a meeting of the Liberal League at Loughborough, [...] Mr. Baldwin moved, and Miss Barlgarnie supported, a resolution in favour of women's suffrage." 4) Women's Protective and Provident League: Mrs. Fawcett presides at the annual meeting. A remark of hers is briefly reproduced, and several other women are mentioned to haven "spoken to" various resolutions. 5) British Women's Temperance: Mrs. Prescott gives "the chief address of the evening" at a meeting. 6) Lectures by Ladies: Eliza Orme lectures on "How we train our Legislators" (briefly summarised), Mrs. Bryant on "Moral Education, from a learner's point of view," and Amelia B. Edwards speaks several times on Ancient Egypt. Miss Homersham "is giving a series of lectures" on the topic. 7) Miscellanous - Metropolitan Association for Befriending Young Servants: At a meeting, Miss Davenport Hill and Miss Poole both speak.
