Abstract

1) "Mrs. Leavitt read a Paper on the effects of Drink on Native Races at the closing meeting of the National Temperance Congress at Birmingham." 2) "Miss Amelia B. Edwards [...] will give courses of lectures at Universities and literary institutions in Columbia, Pennsylvania, Baltimore and Boston." 3) "Lady Victoria Campbell has returned to Inverary Castle from her lecturing tour in Mull." 4) "Lady Knutsford will open the Ninth Annual Show of the Hampstead Crysanthemum Society." 5) "Mrs. Isabella B. Barrows, a strenographer [sic] of Boston, reported a speech made in German, translating into English as she proceeded." 6) "The Hon. Emily Kinnaird has been addressing meetings in Forfarshire under the auspices of the British Women's Christian Association."
