Abstract

"Mrs. Pearsall-Smith [...] made a humorous and somewhat lengthy speech, contending that no nation could progress while it kept its women down. [...] Political Enfranchisement would uplift the woman. With the possession of the vote, women would begin to read and think more widely [...]. She moved that the petition be adopted." After her, Dr. Kate Mitchell seconded her petition, elaborating on the issue of female suffrage by detailling some additional points. Miss Conybeare then also supported the resolution, which was carried.
