A deputation representing eighty Women's Liberal Associations from all over the nation waited upon Mr. Gladstone to discuss the position of women on County Councils. Lady Aberdeen introduced the delegation, and Lady Sandhurst then detailed the demands and aims of the delegation: to obtain the Government's support in their fight for greater representation in local governing bodies. After her, Miss Jane Cobden further urged that justice be done to women, and that they be granted a place in the administration which controls the expenditure of County Councils, as the also represented half of the tax-paying public. She then also urged that constituencies might choose their own representatives and that women also be made eligable for these posts, in order to better represent the interests of women and children. Mr. Gladstone then addressed the ladies, expressing his sympathies for their cause.
