Abstract

1) Bridgewater: Miss Robsan gave an account of a recent meeting at Plymouth. Mrs. Wm. Bouchier read a pamphlet on "The Emancipation of Women." 2) Burgess Hill: Countess Alice Kearney and Mrs. Brignall were the chief speakers at a meeting of the W.L.A. at the local schoolroom. 3) Cardigan: At a meeting at the local Temperance Hall, papers were read by Mrs. Lewis, Miss Parry, and Miss Williams. 4) Gorton and Openshaw: At a series of local meetings, which had the intention of forming a local branch of the W.L.A. , Miss McLaren Ramsay and Miss H.B. Thomson spoke. 5) Halstead: At a meeting presided over by Miss Worden, Miss A. Blomfield read a paper on "The Opium Question," and, following her talk, put forward a resolution condemning the evil effects of the drug and asking Parliament to take steps in that matter. Miss Weston seconded the resolution, and Mrs. Knight supported it. 6) Horwich: At a meeting held at the Reform Club, addresses were given by Miss H.B. Thomson and Mrs. McLaren Ramsay. 7) Ramsbottom: At a meeting at the local Liberal Club, it was decided, after 'able speeches' by Miss McLaren Ramsay and Miss Thomson, that a local branch of the W.L.A. should be formed. 8) Street: At a meeting of the W.L.A. in Street, Miss Esther Clark detailed the proceedings at the Plymouth Federation meetings in an 'interesting report'. 9) Swansea: At a meeting of the W.L.A. at the Walter-road Schoolroom, Mrs. Read, who presided, read a paper on social work, and quoted passages relating to philantropic work in Birmingham and Liverpool. A discussion involving several women ensued. Recitations and songs by a number of women followed. 10) West Bromwich: Mrs. C.D.T. Bushell presided over a meeting of the Association in the Baptists Schoolroom. Mrs. Reid gave an account of current political matters, and assessed the issue of female suffrage. 11) West End Union: At a meeting held at the home of Mrs. MacGrath, "Mrs. Stanbury gave an able address on 'Married Women as Wage-Earners,' which aroused a good deal of discussion." Mrs. Mallet chaired the meeting.
