Abstract

1) Representation of the People: The article lists prominent women who have given "short, clear, and to the point" speeches at a suffrage meeting in St. James's Hall. Maye Ashton Dilke, Millicent Fawcett, and Lydia Becker speak at another meeting. 2) Poor Law Guardians: At the annual meeting of the Society for promoting women as guardians, several women, including Louisa Twining, Isabella Tod, and Florence Stacpoole, speak. Their addresses are reproduced in paraphrase. 3) London School of Medicine for Women - Distribution of Prizes: During the award ceremony, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson "read an address in which she described various matters of interest connected with the history of the school." 4) Women's Temperance Association, Belfast: At a meeting attended by over 500 women, several women speak on mission work in various contexts. Temperance Ladies: "The female members of the National Temperance Congress held a meeting" at which two women speak on different temperance associations. 5) Women's Protective League: Millicent Fawcett presides, and two further women are mentioned as being among the speakers at the League's annual meeting. 6) Miscellaneous - Shorthand: Advertises Miss Joseph's service of providing faithful shorthand transcripts of "lectures in town or country" for a "moderate" fee. Commons Preservation Society: Briefly summarises a speech by IsabellaTodd, given at a meeting of the society. Home Colonization: "Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell delivered a lecture on this subject."
