Abstract

1) The Social Science Congress: A report on the Congress that notes how women "took comparatively little part in its proceedings till towards the close of the meetings." Paraphrases a paper by Caroline Biggs, read by Florence Davenport Hill, on "The Duties of Women as Poor-law Guardians," as well as further papers read by different women in various sections of the Congress. 2) Custody of Children: Paraphrases papers by Dr. Frances Elizabeth Hoggan on "The Position of the Mother in the Family," and by Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy on "The Infants' Bill, 1884." A long excerpt from the latter is included.
