Abstract
At a meeting of the matchbox makers at the Rev. Osborne Jay's Church in Shoreditch, several speeches were given by women to an enthusiastic audience, with the aim to petition for fairer and higher wages. It is mentioned that, despite prior speeches by practised speakers like Miss Corthore, it were the little speches by the working women themselves, who managed to get the audience's attention.
