During the annual meeting of the Dollar Branch of the British Women's Temperance Association, a conference was held in Castle Campbell Hall, Dollar. Some women spoke about Temperance, whilst Miss Margaret Leitch, from Jaffna, Ceylon, "[...] gave a thrilling account of missionary work in Ceylon and the evils of the liquor and opium traffic among the native races." A later meeting and garden party of the of the fifth session of the Dollar Branch of the Young Abstainers' Union, hosted by Mrs. Millar, some more addresses by women were delivered.
