Obituary for Isabella Tod, which refers to her long career as a public speaker and mentions that her first publicly given paper, "On Advanced Education for Girls of the Upper and Middle Classes," was read for her by a man. The article quotes her on the first time she spoke publicly herself in Bristol in 1869, to promote a bill on married women's property. It also mentions that in the campaign for women's suffrage, Tod's help was felt in private converse and in quiet council on committees, as well as - perhaps, even more than - on the platform. Comments favourably on her speaking and preparation. Includes a reprint of an article from the Northern Whig that mentions Tod's ability to draw and command the attention of large audiences.
