Abstract

Report on French 'clubs,' including "a species of 'Woman's Club' [which] was held for a short period, at which ladies ascended the tribune and vehemently demanded" political equality. The club was evetually shut down "and, although women are admitted to all the meetings, the speechmaking at present is confined to men alone." Includes an engraving of a meeting at the Salle des Folies-Belleville on page 232.
